This is exactly the kind of halfwit effort I expected to see. SNL movies just keep getting worse. If they couldn`t make a good Ladies Man movie and Ladies Man is such a character, how can they make a good movie out of Joe Dirt?. I remember reading a comic in a MAD magazine a while ago. It had a couple of guys watching “Big Daddy” in the theatre and one of them started yelling “48 Hours!” “Animal House!” The other guy asked him what he was doing. He said “Remembering the time when SNL movies didn`t used to automatically suck.” This comic came to mind while watching “Joe Dirt”. Sober up, SNL crew! What got my hopes high, if even slightly, was “Emperor`s New Groove” a brilliant cartoon starring David Spade. Of course, he didn`t write that one. Obviously.

Joe Dirt is a guy we`re supposed to feel for. He got abandoned by his parents when he was 8, ended up homeless white trash, everyone is making fun of him, he`s putting himself in embarrassing situations, he gets pushed, shoved, chewed by a crocodile, covered in s**t, those sorts of things. In the end it`s just a bunch of sketches about the same guy that don`t add up to even a coherent story, if not a good one as well. The fact that we get to see Dennis Miller, that girl from “Sweet Valley High” and even Kid Rock trying to act just adds to the already idiotic plot and bad acting on the part of other, more experienced actors, even Christopher Walken who`s slowly starting to lose even his dignity as an actor. He should choose his roles more carefully. The very idea that “Joe Dirt” is the best gig he can get is simply tragic.

David Spade is one of the mediocre comedians. He has the potential to be funny, he proved that in “Emperor`s New Groove”, but he doesn`t deliver nearly as much in the movies as he does in the SNL shows. He tries that type of humor where the material itself isn`t funny, so he just yells instead, kinda like Adam Sandler used to, but Sandler seems to have attempts at good movies now, so lets keep our fingers crossed for him at this point.

“Joe Dirt” is an embarrassingly bad movie and an unnecessarily offensive movie as well. Go and rent some old SNL movie or something of the sort instead...you`ll save your sanity if nothing else.
